Key Responsibilities:

1. Inclusion Planning and Support

  • Assess and identify developmental and learning needs of children requiring additional support

This individual will be responsible for transporting students safely and efficiently according to assigned routes and schedules, while upholding the values and principles of our Islamic learning environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to student safety, punctuality, and respectful communication.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate a school bus in a professional, safe, and lawful manner, ensuring student safety at all times.
  • Follow designated routes and schedules aligned with the school calendar, including morning and afternoon runs, field trips, and extracurricular activities.
  • Assist students during boarding and exiting, especially young children or those requiring additional support.
  • Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections, reporting any mechanical or safety issues promptly.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of the bus interior on a daily basis.
  • Monitor and manage student behavior onboard in accordance with MMA’s bus safety policies and Islamic values.
  • Communicate respectfully and effectively with students, parents, school staff, and dispatch.
  • Refuel the bus as required using the assigned company credit card and ensure the card’s safekeeping.
  • Drive the bus for various purposes including school trips, mosque events, Quran School, and client-related services, including during weekends and school vacations as required.
  • Transport the bus to/from the mechanic shop for servicing, even outside regular working hours.
  • Clock in at the start and clock out at the end of each driving assignment at the designated bus locations (Chebucto or Kearney Lake).
  • Attend mandatory training sessions, safety meetings, and staff development programs.
Requirements:
  • Valid Class 4 Driver’s License with Air Brake endorsement (or equivalent).
  • Clean driving record and background check (including a Vulnerable Sector Check).
  • Prior experience driving school buses or transporting children is preferred.

This individual will be responsible for managing the financial records of Ummah Society and its associated entities: the Maritime Muslim Academy (MMA), Ummah Masjid & Community Center (UMCC), and the Atlantic Muslim Resource Centre (AMRC).
