Islam, Muslims, and Culture: A Cross-Cultural Education Session for Family Law Professionals

This engaging and informative session is specifically tailored for family law professionals. With the growing diversity in Canadian communities, it’s essential to build cultural competence and understand clients’ context to ensure equitable, respectful, and effective service delivery.
In this session, participants will:

Gain a foundational understanding of Islamic beliefs and family-related practices

Explore cultural norms around marriage, divorce, parenting, and gender roles within Muslim communities

Learn about the impact of Islamophobia, immigration experiences, and systemic barriers on Muslim families’ access to justice

Reflect on culturally sensitive and trauma-informed approaches in family law cases

Engage in open dialogue and Q&A with trained facilitators who bring both lived experience and professional insight
Open to: Family lawyers, legal professionals, mediators, paralegals, and anyone in the legal field looking to deepen their understanding of Islam and Muslim cultures.
