Elementary Teacher

Job Summary: Maritime Muslim Academy is seeking a dedicated and passionate Elementary Teacher to provide high-quality education and instruction to students in Grade 1 to 7. The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering a nurturing and inclusive learning environment while delivering engaging and culturally relevant lessons rooted in Islamic values.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging  lessons that align with the curriculum and educational standards.
  • Serve as a homeroom teacher, providing academic instruction and guidance to students in Grade 1 to 7.
  • Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes Islamic values, mutual respect, and appreciation for diversity.
  • Assess student learning through a variety of methods, including tests, quizzes, projects, and observations, and provide timely feedback to students and parents.

School Bus Driver (Casual/PT)

Job Title: School Bus Driver
Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia
Employment Type: Part-Time

Position Overview:
Ummah Society /Maritime Muslim Academy (MMA) is seeking a reliable, safety-conscious, and courteous Bus Driver to join our transportation team. This individual will be responsible for transporting students safely and efficiently according to assigned routes and schedules, while upholding the values and principles of our Islamic learning environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to student safety, punctuality, and respectful communication.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate a school bus in a professional, safe, and lawful manner, ensuring student safety at all times.
  • Follow designated routes and schedules aligned with the school calendar, including morning and afternoon runs, field trips, and extracurricular activities.
  • Assist students during boarding and exiting, especially young children or those requiring additional support.
  • Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections, reporting any mechanical or safety issues promptly.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of the bus interior on a daily basis.
  • Monitor and manage student behavior onboard in accordance with MMA’s bus safety policies and Islamic values.
  • Communicate respectfully and effectively with students, parents, school staff, and dispatch.
  • Refuel the bus as required using the assigned company credit card and ensure the card’s safekeeping.
  • Drive the bus for various purposes including school trips, mosque events, Quran School, and client-related services, including during weekends and school vacations as required.
  • Transport the bus to/from the mechanic shop for servicing, even outside regular working hours.
  • Clock in at the start and clock out at the end of each driving assignment at the designated bus locations (Chebucto or Kearney Lake).
  • Attend mandatory training sessions, safety meetings, and staff development programs.
Requirements:
  • Valid Class 4 Driver’s License with Air Brake endorsement (or equivalent).
  • Clean driving record and background check (including a Vulnerable Sector Check).
  • Prior experience driving school buses or transporting children is preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Physical ability to conduct vehicle inspections and assist students with mobility needs.
  • A commitment to maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment aligned with Islamic principles.

Working Hours:
This role typically follows the school year calendar with split shifts during morning and afternoon hours. Additional hours may be required for field trips, special events, or weekend duties. All non-regular trips will be communicated in advance.

Inclusion Coordinator

Position Summary:

Ummah Society /Maritime Muslim Academy is seeking a compassionate and knowledgeable Inclusion Coordinator to join our team and lead the development and implementation of inclusive programming for children with diverse needs. This role requires strong collaboration with educators, families, and specialists to ensure all children are supported and empowered to thrive in our early learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Inclusion Planning and Support

  • Assess and identify developmental and learning needs of children requiring additional support
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individual Program Plans (IPPs) or support plans in partnership with families and educators
  • Coordinate inclusion supports such as educational assistants and external specialists (e.g., SLPs, OTs)

2. Staff Training and Mentorship

  • Mentor educators on inclusive strategies and curriculum adaptations
  • Facilitate or coordinate training sessions and workshops on inclusive practices and child development
  • Model and promote trauma-informed care and positive behavior guidance

3. Family Engagement

  • Act as the primary contact for families of children with diverse needs
