About Ummah Society

The Largest Muslim Charity in Atlantic Canada

The Ummah Society is the largest Muslim charity in Atlantic Canada. Founded in 1989, its mission is to embody the first Islamic Institution established by Prophet Mohammed PBUH and the early Muslim Immigrants. As It was beyond a place of worship, It was a beacon of knowledge, a refuge for charity, a shelter for the homeless, a community space for gatherings and celebrations, and a haven for children’s play and growth. In essence, the aim is to render the Ummah Society a hub around which the lives of Muslims in Atlantic Canada revolve. The Society works in different sectors and operates three Mosques across Nova Scotia, P-12 private schools, licensed daycares, and recreation centres.

Ummah Mosque

We at the Ummah Mosque strive to resemble the first Mosque established in Islam by Prophet Mohammed PBUH and the early Muslim immigrants. It was more than a place of worship, It was a beacon of knowledge, a refuge for charity, a shelter for the homeless, a community space for gatherings and celebrations, a haven for children’s play and growth, and most importantly a place in which the wisdom of living Islam materializes. In essence, the aim is to render the Mosque a modern-day hub around which the Muslims’ life revolves.

Ummah Mosque of Antigonish

In this quiet and small town of little over 20,000 people, the need for a Mosque was deeply felt for decades. Muslims had longed for a dedicated space to come together for prayers and community activities. Responding to this need, the Ummah Mosque of Antigonish was established in a prime location in 2021, becoming a unifying force as the first and only Mosque and Community Center in the county. With the presence of St. Francis Xavier University and St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, the mosque also serves as a spiritual haven for students, healthcare professionals, and community members alike.

Ummah Mosque of Wolfville

The growing Islamic community in the Annapolis Valley faced a considerable challenge due to the lack of a Mosque, particularly relevant to Acadia University’s international student population and health care professionals at the Valley Regional Hospital. Addressing this void, the Ummah Mosque of Wolfville opened its doors for prayers in February 2022. The Masjid has become a vibrant center for the community as It remains the sole Mosque in the Valley.
